Avignon is a spectacular and historic city. Did you know that Avignon used to be the seat of the pope and capital of Christendom? Only an hour from Aix-en-Provence, this walled city has some amazing sights. I’ll never forget the parking last time I was there, trying to fit the car in the slanted spaces, backing up a thousand times to get into the spot. But now it’s a bit different. You can easily access garage parking. For me, the main site was the Palais des Papes; but, the whole town is buzzing. This time I noticed so many street performers and theaters. I guess you have to try one of these comedic performances or dramatic expositions. Students were really pushing the shows. After Avignon, I drove to Arles, just 40 minutes away. The Roman ruins there are amazing. There’s a huge coliseum in the middle of town and beautiful squares teeming with activity. Good luck finding your top restaurant. Lots of choices.
